Faithful as the Seasons

Faithfulness. Today has been a day of delighting and pondering about God’s faithfulness. And is He ever so faithful. He is faithful to keep his promises, covenant and faithful to love and pursue; faithful in so many ways. Psalm 89 is the chapter of God’s faithfulness (I guess of many, many others too!)…when I guess in actuality the whole Bible is a declaration of the faithfulness of God. Our faith is placed in the faithfulness of our Lord. How I’ve come to realize that my faith lacks too much.
Today while at an assisted living home leading worship, God put it on my heart the faithfulness of Spring. I love spring! It is so beautiful, refreshing, life-giving and rejuvenating. How I loved the emergence of spring after looooong Fargo winters, and I think I love it just as much after Missoula’s milder, shorter winter. Spring is filled with such hope and joy. I put a lot of faith in Spring. I believe, no, I know it will come every year. It may come at a different time, in a different way, look slightly different etc. but I know it will not fail to come. I have faith in the faithfulness of Spring to arrive without fail.
And so how does my faith waiver in the faithfulness of God? How does fear get the better of me in circumstances? God will come through, just like Spring comes every year. It might look different, it might feel different from what others experienced, what I’ve experienced before etc. but He will come. That’s what the whole world testifies to! Spring testifies to the faithfulness of God! The Bible testifies to the faithfulness of God! That was the importance of passing down stories of what God has done for his people: to testify to his faithfulness that the next generation will have faith in the Lord who owns the heavens and earth, who owns the seasons and who owns us! Oh children, how important it is for you to hear the stories of the faithful to build your faith so when the devil tries to tempt with fear, you can lean on the faithfulness of God in the past and put your faith on the faithfulness of God now and in your future!
Pass on the stories of God’s faithfulness! Not only for the children who are coming behind, but so that you remember yourselves…so that we remember!! We cannot forget. Our future depends on it. Faith overcomes fear.
I know my God is faithful. We need to believe our God is faithful—he is our hope! Come on people, let us start remembering together and cast out fear.
